Childbirth is one of the most joyous experiences, but not for all people. Some can become very traumatised, not only during the delivery, but also at any point antenatally or postnatally.
Unfortunately, birth trauma can be misdiagnosed as postnatal depression (PND), which can result in being prescribed unnecessary medication and therapy. While these may help to some extent, they will not treat the psychological trauma that has occurred. Only specific and tailored treatments for the birth trauma will help women - and their partners in some cases - to recover and truly enjoy this as well as future pregnancies.
